OROM was formed on 18/12/2005 by enthusiast Andrew Suresh primarily due to the scarcity and overpricing of spareparts and also following the cessation of the Opel dealership in Malaysia.

The Register is unique as it is now the only source for information on Opel cars domestically ( at least from the enthusiasts point of view ).The Opel brand was very popular in Malaysia in the 60's,70's , 80's and General Motors had even built an assembly plant in Johor in the late 60's to assemble models such as the Kadett, Rekord and Manta . In the 90's , the new Opel franchise dealer then, sold approximately 3000 cars prior to its closure in 2005.

With the assistance of the media since it's formation , the Register saw participation from many owners and enthusiasts throughout the country . At our 2nd Opel meet , National hero and 2002 World Production Car Champion Rally driver , Mr. Karamjit Singh , an Opel owner himself , was made Honorary member of OROM.

Among the objectives of the Register are as follows:-
a) To ensure continued existence of the the Opel marque in Malaysia
b) To assist and advise members on all technical problems
c) To arrange for discounts with appointed Opel service centres and part suppliers
d) To organise runs and events
e) To network and affiliate with Opel Clubs worldwide
f) To promote fellowship and camaraderie among members and enthusiasts.

The Register is strictly an enthusiasts club and is not officially affiliated to any establishment locally and/or it's mother companies abroad.
